I must confess this
was one of my main concerns when I first arrived in Fort Smith. I come from a
medium-sized town in Spain, plus I’ve spent the last years in several big
cities, where there is always something going on. Honestly, I was scared that
my stay at UAFS would be boring but, luckily, soon the contrary would be proven
to me:
My favorite activity
so far, if I must choose one, would be the Howdy Dance. We don’t really listen
to country music in Spain, and it was really funny to see the people line
dancing and to ride the bouncy horses. I also spotted some really cute cowboy
boots that I want to buy ;)
The Casino Night was
also a lot of fun. Blackjack, roulette, slot machines… it looked like a real
casino! Of course I didn’t win anything, I’m not a good gambler, but I met
several new people and I ate a week’s quantity of pizza and cookies.
A totally different
activity was “Color me different,” and artsy activity aiming to promote tolerance.
Even though we all come in different wrappings, there is always something you
can find you have in common. Seating around a canvas, different students from
different majors and backgrounds gathered together to create something
beautiful.
To sum up, if you
don’t want to, you don’t get bored at UAFS! Every week, there is at least
something going on. You don’t need a big city to have big fun!
I think so too!
