What is success? To some people, it's about getting a lot of money, fame, or simply having an happy family. In my opinion, it's about loving the job I do everyday, realizing that it brings benefit to people around me, and getting married (just jk!) :)
This poem, written by Ralph Waldo Emerson, defines what "success" means to him. It is very inspiring.
“Success”
To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people
and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics
and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child,
a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.
To win the respect of intelligent people
and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics
and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child,
a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.
I think everyone of us should have our own meaning of success, because it can serve as a goal for us to pursue. So what is your definition of success?
(P/S: I got the poem from the website http://www.goal-setting-help.com/emerson-poem-success.html)
I didn't know this poem, but I couldn't agree more! It's my new definition of success too :) Thanks for sharing!
