Falling in love with Fall

I have never understood, until now, why people's favorite season could be the Fall. Maybe it was because I am from the south of Spain, where summer seems to never end and then all of a sudden is almost Christmas already. In that time span, the only event is seeing beautiful trees turning into dead-like sad branches. On the other hand, Spring is blatant beauty all around, with butterflies and flowers blooming and the promise of an amazing Summer. And then, we find the synonym of sun and beach and free time, a chant for nonchalance. Winter is the last, but definitely not the least: an invitation for coziness, a blast of generosity, and a praise for the family, with Christmas being the maximum exponent of all these wonders. But, the Fall? For me it was just the boring step to make to arrive to Winter.

But then I came to Arkansas, and Fall acquired a whole new meaning. Here, Autumn is an explosion of color and the home in the calendar for splendid celebrations we lack in Spain; Halloween, Homecoming and Thanksgiving. And of course, pumpkin spice in our Starbucks coffees ;)

One tree, three colors.

Yesterday, for example, it was Halloween, and I went trick or treating for the first time in my life. However, although Halloween night is absolutely fantastic, a great deal of the fun comes from the enthusiasm of preparing yourself for it. For instance, picking a costume and carving a pumpkin.

Getting rid of the slimy inside of the pumpkins.

Designing the face we are trying to go for.

Being proud of our work :)

I loved all the stages of it, and now I cannot wait for Homecoming next week, or Thanksgiving in less than a month. Fall in the United States is awesome!

Truman Capote wrote in Breakfast at Tiffany's “Aprils have never meant much to me, autumns seem that season of beginning, spring,” and in a sense he is completely right. At the very least, for us Autumns will always be the reminder of the beginning of our American adventure.
